‘You belong to the zoo’, Fayose tells OBJ in a ‘Thank You’ letter

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose have once again reignited their long-running political rivalry, this time through a sharply worded exchange of messages made public on Monday.

According to a statement released in Abeokuta by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former president received what Fayose described as a “thank-you” message following Obasanjo’s attendance at Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.

In the text message, Fayose expressed appreciation for Obasanjo’s presence but launched into a blistering rebuke of the former president’s remarks at the event.

“Dear Baba Obasanjo, I trust this meets you well. Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate except for your very irresponsible comments at your age,” Fayose wrote. He accused Obasanjo of descending “so low,” adding that “someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely, that’s where you belong.”

Fayose continued his tirade, alleging that Obasanjo had “lost your sanity” and was possibly experiencing “a heightened stage of dementia.” He said he refrained from responding publicly at the event “so that the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man that you are.”

He further asked Obasanjo to return money he claimed the former president acknowledged receiving, adding: “Lastly I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought u back. Your leopard will never change his skin.”

Obasanjo responded tersely, thanking Fayose for the message, which he said “undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable.” He added that the money in question had been returned “through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”

The latest spat adds another chapter to the turbulent relationship between the two political figures, known for their frequent and often public disagreements.
